Boys' Achievements
Oliver Purton (Year 8, Ferguson) has been selected in the U/15 State Lacrosse team to play in the National tournament in Perth commencing on September 27th.
Stuart McCowan (Year 11, Ferguson) has been accepted into The New York Jazz Symposium. It brings renowned jazz teachers to work with dedicated, devoted and passionate young jazz musicians in Melbourne. Musicians will work with renowned Carl Allen, Rodney Jones, Matthew Jodrell, Chris Ziemba, Carla Cook, Jordan Pettay and Davin Starks.
Scotch College shines at the World Scholar's Cup
Four Scotch College teams competed in the Global Round of the World Scholar's Cup in Singapore after qualifying for this event following strong performances in the Perth Round in March of this year. The Global Round featured 2349 students from 28 countries, all of whom won places at this event.
The boys' achievements at the Global Round of the World Scholar's Cup place Scotch College at the peak of international academic achievement and are a testament to the ability and effort of all boys involved.
Result summary:
Junior Division (11 - 14 years)
Jack Taylor, Lewis Orr and Tom Hodge ranked 23rd in the team debates from approximately 400 teams.
Lewis Orr (Year 7) was the 39th highest achieving individual from approximately 1200 students. Lewis also placed 12th in debating and was listed on the Honour Roll for the Scholar's Challenge.
Senior Division (15 - 18 years)
Drummond Orr (Year 10, Ferguson), Solomon Little (Year 10, Anderson) and James Naylor-Pratt (Year 10, Anderson) placed first in the Commonwealth division and 19th internationally from approximately 400 senior teams. The Senior Team also placed 19th internationally in the team debates category and were listed on the Honour Roll for both Writing and the Scholar's Challenge.
James Naylor-Pratt was the 3rd highest achieving individual across all academic domains from approximately 1200 students. James also placed 10th in debating, 15th in the Scholar's Challenge, 20th in Writing and was listed on the Social Science Honour Roll.
As a result of the outstanding achievements at the Global Round, two Scotch College teams have been invited to compete at the Tournament of Champions at Yale University in November of this year.
Jacob Coulson (Year 12 Shearer) has been training as a volunteer rescue swimmer for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, jumping out of the helicopter into the ocean, and being winched back onto the helicopter during training runs. Jacob also visited North Parmelia Primary school to raise awareness of water safety issues.
